Ooh I love that summer blockbusters are back in a big way! What a dream to walk to the cinema. I have to add a note though, the people are very much NOT anti-GP… it’s the Glennaisance and I am feeling the Glenergy, actually 🔥😆

If you saw the smile on my face when your journalist friend swayed your opinion with her total dissatisfaction about "not getting the snog."💋

Spielberg really got a conversation going with that ending.

It would be so cool if you could run through basic archetypes & movie storytelling so we can understand what's missing, the angles and be able to talk about how female roles are sliced & diced.

It's amazing women's speaking roles have dropped in a year - I wouldn't have guessed that with the focus on the Barbie phenomenon. (I just Googled after I read this!)

Basic stuff for you at this stage yet so eye opening for many of us! 🙏🏻

Oh you just perfectly described our couch routine. It’s so boring trying to watch men do everything with women in the background making sandwiches and coffee. I tend to curate my entertainment in a female-focused direction. Stacks by women, books by women, music by women, medicine by women, education by women, hanging out with women… sometimes I wonder if I’ve become too insular and then I have to sit through some mansplaining, wade through some particularly patriarchal policy, or listen to some other macho bullshit and decide, nah…

I'm the same. We spend ages scrolling, then watch something for 20 minutes before I can't help but audibly sigh (of maybe it's a huff), so we scroll some more before I say I'm off to read a book which usually involves strong real women.

Haven't seen it yet, but it depends if the character of DEJ wanted a snog or not. It sounds like her character's head was more spun by the tornado than the lead guy which is a refreshing take and the no snog ending was a good choice. However, if she was attracted to him, and he was there for the taking, then she should have instigated the snog and walked away towards the camera with an explosion happening in the background.

I mentioned the lack of snogging to my husband the moment we left the theater. I guess I want it all in big Hollywood films: action, adventure, triumph, disasters, heroism, kindness and romance.

If you’re a Glen Powell fan, be sure to see HITMAN on Netflix, which he also cowrote. Some great stuff there. And some snogging but also great dialogue.
